Embarking on the Brahmatal trek in winter offers a unique and exceptional experience, setting it apart from typical Himalayan treks. One of its distinguished features is the rare opportunity to trek to and camp near an alpine lake despite the challenges posed by winter snow accumulation.

Located at an altitude of approximately 12,000 feet, Brahmatal's frozen lake unfolds before trekkers, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Nestled within a crater, the crystal-clear waters of the lake are complemented by a nearby shrine and a solitary tree standing on the far bank. The panoramic views extend to Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti, two majestic mountains that grace the backdrop beyond the lake's ridge.

Camping just beyond the lake, weather permitting, elevates the experience, providing trekkers with an enchanting setting against the snow-covered landscape. Amidst the focus on Brahmatal, the trek also introduces the captivating Bekaltal, a lower lake surrounded by dense forests and steeped in centuries-old folklore.

Brahmatal's forested sections stand out as one of the trek's highlights, particularly during winter when a layer of snow enhances the natural beauty. The partially enveloped forests offer a unique blend of enchanting landscapes and a sense of openness as the trees reveal expansive views.

Each campsite on the trek is distinctive, with notable spots like Gujreni, a lovely hideout nestled in a clearing. Tilandi, a trekkers' favorite, boasts unforgettable sunsets against the backdrop of Mt. Trishul, creating an immersive experience on the open high ground.

Despite being a relatively new trek in India, Brahmatal has gained rapid popularity, owing to its almost perfect conditions for a winter snow trek. To avoid crowds, the ideal time for this trek is January, February, and March, when the snow is deeper, offering a serene and less-traveled winter wonderland.

DAY 1

Drive from Rishikesh to Lohajung

Drive distance: 260 km | Drive duration: 10-11 hr | Pick up point for Trexpert trekkers: Informed in Whatsapp Group | Pick up Time: 5 am

It is a 10-11 hour drive from Rishikesh. Transport will be arranged from Live Free Hostel, Rishikesh at 5.00 am. The cost of a cab is Rs 7,000 per vehicle and the cost of a Tempo Traveller is Rs 11,000. This has to be divided among trekkers and paid to the driver directly.

DAY 2

Trek from Lohajung to Gujreni

Trek distance: 4.5 km | Trek Duration: 5 hours | Altitude gain: 7,550 ft to 9,180 ft

DAY 3

Trek from Gujreni to Tilandi

Trek distance: 2.9 km | Trek Duration: 4-5 hours | Altitude gain: 9,180 ft to 10,495 ft

DAY 4

Trek from Tilandi to Brahmatal via Brahmatal Top

Trek distance: 6 km | Trek Duration: 5-6 hours | Altitude loss: 10,495 ft to 10,190 ft via 12,250 ft

DAY 5

Trek from Brahmatal to Lohajung

Trek distance: 8.45 km | Trek Duration: 7-8 hours | Altitude loss: 10,190 ft to 7,550 ft

DAY 6

Drive from Lohajung to Rishikesh

Drive distance: 260 km | Drive duration: 10-11 hr | Drop off Time: 7 pm

You will reach Rishikesh by 6-7 pm. The cost of a cab – Is Rs 7,000 per vehicle and the cost of a Tempo Traveller is Rs 11,000. This has to be divided among trekkers and paid to the driver directly.
